13th Annual EU Film Festival: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

The European Union Film Festival presents an eye-popping total of 59 movies this year, spanning just about every possible type of narrative film you can imagine.

Tasty thrillers include THE BONE MAN (Austria), THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO (Sweden), ZERO (Poland), PERRIER’S BOUNTY (Ireland), and 25 CARAT and CELL 211 (both Spain). Comedy-dramas, most often with a romantic twist, include FAINTHEART (UK), CHAMELEON (Hungary), FRENCH GIGOLO (France), SMALL CRIME (Cyprus), and GORDOS (Spain).

But THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO (Sweden) would be most awaited.

Story line of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" - Sweden's Blockbuster of all Time

Now This movie is going to be released in US with English subtitles. This is a hypnotically visual movie about research into an unsolved crime. The disgraced journalist Mikael (Michael Nyqvist) and the moody computer hacker Lisbeth (Noomi Rapace) team up to investigate the disappearance of Harriet Vanger, a teenager who vanished in 1966 while visiting the island estate of her immensely wealthy and powerful family.
But it's so slickly executed in such a convincingly Hollywood-like fashion that the action never flags, and a few twists in the formula definitely elevate it from stateside product. The bleak Swedish countryside adds a uniquely spooky aura to the proceedings, for one. Then there's the title character. Lisbeth is a street smart hacker whose photographic memory and aggressive intelligence mask a troubled past. Her candor and unapologetic badassery make her a refreshing heroine, and Noomi Rapace turns in a strong performance.
